Is a helmet compulsory?
A helmet is compulsory for Club Piou Piou, the Performance and Team Rider courses. For all other outings, it is highly recommended.
How does the medal ceremony work for group lessons?
You are invited to the medal ceremony in the children's garden on Friday at 11.30am for morning lessons or 4.45pm for afternoon lessons.
For group lessons, what happens if we leave before the end of the week?
-Please let the instructor know and they will confirm your child’s level during their final lesson.
It’s our first time skiing, can you tell us what equipment we need?
You need to be appropriately dressed in ski wear with base and mid-layer(s) underneath, sunglasses or googles, a helmet, high factor sunscreen and, of course, your skis or snowboard and boots. Don’t forget to have your ski pass* in your pocket (it is also sensible to carry a copy of your insurance). *Nb beginners will not need a ski pass at the start of the week.
Do your lesson prices include ski pass, ski hire and/or insurance?
No, our prices only cover the teaching. You can:
- Rent your skis or snowboard with our partner Skiset
- Add on cancellation and/or carré neige insurance directly with us. More info
- Remember there is no need to buy a ski pass in advance for beginners – the instructor will let you know when it is time to get one. For everyone else, you can buy the ski passes on our website when you book your lessons or you can buy them direct via the lift pass office.
Is insurance compulsory? What happens if my holiday is cancelled?
Insurance is strongly recommended. Please note that ESF will not refund your booking if you cancel it (whatever the reason). We recommend you consider adding cancellation insurance when you make your booking.

How many people do you need for group lessons and off piste groups to run?
For ski and snowboard group lessons, we need a minimum of 2 people to be booked into a group for it to go ahead. If there is only one person booked into group lessons, the lessons will come to an end after the lesson on Monday (effectively the week of group lessons is transformed into a private lesson) and there will not be any refund.
For the Transceiver Session, Off Piste Introduction and the Off Piste outing to Le Monal, we need a minimum of 3 people to be booked for these outings to go ahead. If there are 2 or less, we will cancel the outing and offer you a refund.
For snowshoe and nordic walking group outings, we need a minimum of 3 people to be booked for these outings to go ahead. If there are 2 or less, we will cancel the outing and offer you the choice to book an alternative outing or have a refund.
Do I need to provide a snack for my child?
Students have a short break during their group lessons. Please pop a small snack in your child's pocket - it will be well deserved.
There is no need for them to have a rucksack or a water bottle. We will provide Roche Claire water, in partnership with l'Eau Roche Claire.
Who do I need to give my ability booklet to and when?
If you or your children are booked into group lessons, please give your ability booklet to your instructor during Thursday's lesson.
I have booked a private lesson. How do I know which instructor to look for?
The name of your instructor will be on the list pinned on our private lesson noticeboard which is located on the small terrace in front of the ski school office. The list is put up about 8.50am for morning lessons, 11.50am for lunchtime lessons and 2.15pm for afternoon lessons.
